中東に平和を！ ７０： なぜ疲弊したのか ８： 帝国主義の心性 １
Last time I explained about the mentality of Western Europe that advanced the imperialism.
This time, we look at a part of their real intention.
前回、帝国主義を進めた西欧の心性について語りました。
今回は、その本音を垣間みることにします。

Case A
We focus on Xavier that is famous for having brought Christianity for the first time to Japan.
He was from Spanish aristocrat and founded the Society of Jesus as an elite unit of the Pope and was responsible for the Counter-Reformation. Annotation 1.
He aimed at Goa of India for missionary work to the world and missioned for several years.
In 1546, he asked to open a European-style religious trial in India.
At that time, the witch-hunting and the bonfires of the Inquisition were raging in Spain.
After he departed to Japan, Several dozen Hindus were burnt as heretic for a reason of having used a magic. Annotation 2.
事例Ａ
日本に初めてキリスト教を伝えたことで有名なザビエルを見ます。
彼はスペインの貴族出身で、教皇の精鋭部隊として「イエズス会」を創立し、対抗宗教改革を担った。注釈１．
世界宣教の為にインドのゴアを目指し、数年宣教している。
この時の１５４６年、彼はインドで欧州式の宗教裁判を開くように求めている。
当時、スペインでは魔女狩りや異端審判が吹き荒れていた。
彼が日本に発った後、ヒンドゥ教徒が魔法を使うとして数十名が異端者として火刑になっている。注釈２．

Case B
The following sentence is a quoted from the French philosopher Montesquieu's book "The Spirit of Laws" in the 18th century. Annotation 3.
“I can't think that our God who is very wise bestowed a good soul on the black body.
......
......
If we think that they are human being, people would assume that we are not Christians”
He had made humanitarian remarks, but the blacks were different things for him.
For example, Columbus arrived in Haiti of the Caribbean Sea in 1492.
There, the indigenous Indians were massacred, black slaves were carried from Africa instead of them, and had to work.
In the 18th century, France occupied Haiti and was producing great wealth by sugarcane and coffee cultivation.
And Montesquieu was indirectly profiting from the blacks slave trading.
The following sentence is a quoted from the pamphlet that defended the slave trade at that time.
“A slave merchant who is a pioneer of civilization is a temporal monk.
They save miserable pagans from barbarity, fanaticism, and superstitions.
Bringing black slaves to the United States is to open the gate of heaven for them. "
事例Ｂ
１８世紀フランスの哲学者モンテスキューの著書「法の精神」から引用します。注釈３．
「きわめて賢明な存在である神が、魂を、特に善良な魂を、真っ黒な肉体に宿らしめたことなど考えられない。
・・・・
・・・・
もし我々が彼らを人間と考えるならば、人々は我々のことをキリスト教徒ではないと考えるだろう。」
彼は人道主義的な発言をしてはいたが、黒人は別扱いでした。
例えば、カリブ海に浮かぶハイチに１４９２年、コロンブスが到着した。
先住民のインディアンが大量虐殺され、代わりに黒人奴隷が運ばれて来た。
１８世紀になると、フランスがハイチを占領し、サトウキビとコヒー栽培で巨万の富を生み出していた。
そしてモンテスキューは間接的に黒人奴隷売買で利益を得ていた。
また当時の黒人奴隷貿易を擁護したパンフレットより。
「文明の先駆者である奴隷商人は俗世の修道士である。
彼らは哀れな異教徒を野蛮、狂信、迷信より救ってやるのだ。
黒人奴隷をアメリカに上陸させることで天国の門を開いてやっているのだ。」
事例C
１８３４年、フランスの政治家、詩人のラマルティーヌは議会で発言した。注釈４．
彼は財政的な理由でアルジェを放棄することに反対した。
「我々はアルジェを手放すことは絶対にない。
・・アルジェがフランスにすべての必要な利益をもたらさない場合、軍事的植民地として、また未開の野蛮に対する文明の前衛として、さらに我々に属する海である地中海に浮かぶ船として、・・・」
彼はアルジェを放棄しアラブに渡すことは文明の野蛮化に他ならないと言う。
Case D
In 1853, certain French aristocrat wrote "An Essay on the Inequality of the Human Races", it was enthusiastically accepted, and became a racist Bible for Nazis later. Annotation 5.
“ For 30 years, we frequently hear that we have civilized other people in the world and tried to bring civilization to delayed kingdoms.
Well observe, but it was useless.
From olden days, I do not believe that any results have been obtained by it.

The civilization depends on whether the people in the kingdom are extinguished or are mixed with our white race. "
"The black race stands under the stairs.
......
The yellow race has poor physical energy and is apathy.
White people are blessed with brainpower, and has strong reflective consciousness.
They have a sense for usefulness, it is wider and higher than the yellow race, and is more brave and ideal. "
This continues to the next time.
事例D
１８５３－５５年、フランス貴族が「人種不平等論」を著し、熱狂的に受け入れられ、後にナチスから人種主義の聖書とされた。注釈５．
「我々のところでは、この３０年来、世界の他の人々を文明化し、しかじかの国に文明をもたらすということを頻繁に耳にする。
よく観察したが無駄である。
今も昔もそれによって何らかの結果が得られたとは思わない。
・・・
・・・（文明化）はその国の人々を消滅させるか人種的に混ぜ合わせるかによってである。」
「黒色人種は階段の下に立っている。
・・・
黄色人種は肉体的エネルギーが乏しく、また無感動なむきがある。
・・・
白人は反省する力というか、力強い知力に恵まれている。
彼らは有用性に対する感覚を持っているが、それは黄色人種よりも広く高く、より勇敢で理想的である。」

この火刑はザビエルの意向ではないかもしれないが、彼らは異教徒に厳しい
ゴアで宗教裁判が行われたのは、当時、この地がポルトガル領インドの首府であり、ローマ教会布教の中心地になっていたからです。
もしかしたら、日本が西欧の植民地になっていれば同じことが起きたかもしれない。
