第３章　我々が直面している危機

　我々に幾多の大きな危機が迫りつつある。それらには歴史上繰り返され来た危機や、まったく未知の恐ろしさ秘める危機もある。これらの危機を見極め対処しなければ、一国の疲弊や破綻に留まらず、遂には人類と地球に大きな損害を与えることになるだろう。数多くの危機の中から、最重要なものを選んだ。

 

 

３-５　荒稼ぎし逃げ回るマネー

 

ここ10年間で荒稼ぎする横暴なマネー

　

　2006年、米国のヘッジファンドAmaranthが、天然ガス先物取引の失敗により約60億ドル（約7,000億円）もの巨額の損失を出して破綻しました。同ファンドは、天然ガス価格が冬に値上がりすることを見越して大量に買い保有しました。同ファンドの運用資産の65％を注ぎ込みました。2005年は大型ハリケーン「カトリーナ」の影響で天然ガス価格が暴騰し巨額の利益を上げたが、2006年は予想に反して暖冬傾向となり、ガス在庫が積み上がったことで天然ガス価格が急落した。しかし損切が出来なかった。同ファンドの天然ガス先物市場のシェアは数割にのぼり、買い手が少なく無理して売れば、さらに暴落するのは確実でした。こうして同ファンドは最大級の規模で破綻した。

 

　2010年のフラッシュ・クラッシュ(株価の短時間の急落回復）では、超高速取引（HFT）を使った異常アルゴリズムの連鎖によりわずか36分間で約1兆ドル（約150兆円）の時価総額が消失した。当初は、光ファイバー回線や専用アルゴリズムを駆使し、一般投資家や年金基金が注文を出した「その1万分の1秒前」に注文を察知し、先回りして株を買い、数銭でも高く買い手に売りつける高頻度取引が行われた。現在はその速度は10億分の1秒に達しているが、透明性を持って行われ、全取引の約60％がこの手法で行われている。また予測シミレーションを行うためのAI導入が加速している。

 

　2021年、GameStop事件、歴史的な株価暴騰劇が起きた。発端はヘッジファンドが、業績不振の会社GameStopの株価が下落すると予測し、猛烈な空売りを仕掛けた。個人投資家たちは、この「過剰な空売り状態」に目をつけ、ネット掲示板で団結して一斉に株を買いました。株価が予想に反して急騰したため、同ファンドは損失を抑えるために「買い戻し（損切り）」を迫られ、この買い戻しがさらに株価を押し上げる連鎖が起き、株価は一時、数週間で数十倍にまで跳ね上がりました（ショートスクイーズ現象）。同ファンドらは数十億ドルの損失を出し、後に閉鎖になった。この事件は、投資家が企業価値とかけ離れて株価を操り、利益を得ている好例であり、また個人投資家がSNSにより集団で市場を動かした事例となった。

 

　2021年、ヘッジファンドArchegosが崩壊し、世界の主要金融機関に総額100億ドル（約1兆円以上）を超える巨額の損失を与えた。その仕組みは、金融機関（証券会社や投資銀行）が代わりに株を購入し、同ファンドはその株の値上がり益や配当を受け取る代わりに、金利を支払う契約「トータル・リターン・スワップ（TRS）」でした。同ファンドは複数の金融機関と個別にTRS契約し、同じ銘柄に、自己資金を何倍にも膨らませ投資した（過大レバレッジ）。こうして同ファンドの資産約15億ドル、エクスポージャー（株価総額）約100億ドルから、１か月以内に、約360億ドル、約1600億ドルに一機に膨張した。しかし突如、集中投資していた株が急落し、金融機関は追加の担保を同ファンドに求めたが、これが出来ずに破綻した。この問題は、同ファンドが個人資産を運用する会社であり、株の大量保有の情報開示義務を回避出来た事です。

 

2022年、暗号資産Terra/LUNA が崩壊し、数日間で約400億ドル（約6兆円）の時価総額が一瞬にして消失し、次いで暗号資産市場全体で4500億ドルが吹き飛んだ。この二つの暗号資産は互いに補完し信用を得るようになっていた。Terraはドルとの連動と年利20％をうたい、多額の資金が流入していたが、危険を察知した大口投資家が大量売却に出た。するとTerraを保障するLUNAの暗号資産プログラムは、買い支える為に、無限に自動発行し続け、結局大暴落した。これは、元々ドルとの交換も年利20％も不可能なシステムであって、詐欺行為でした。問題は、このような詐欺まがいの金融商品が、次から次と生まれては、儲ける人と損する人が群がることです。

 

 

 

横暴なマネーは逃げ回る

 

　これまで横暴なマネーを見てきたが、膨れ上がったマネーを富裕層や企業がタックス・ヘイブン（オフショア、租税回避地）に隠す状況を見ます。試算で異なるが、タックス・ヘイブンに隠された世界の富は約13兆ドル、世界GDPの約12.5％になり、税金逃れは毎年約5000億ドル（74兆円）に上ると見られている。

 

米国の巨大IT企業（アップル、グーグル等）がアイルランド、オランダ、バミューダ諸島など複数の国の子会社間に特許使用料を付け回し、海外利益の法人税率を実質1%未満にまで押し下げたスキーム。法改正で塞がれるまで10年以上使われました。アップル1社だけで海外に積み立てた未課税現金は2,500億ドル（約37.5兆円）。

 

　租税回避の巧妙な手口を要約すると、先ずタックス・ヘイブンにペーパーカンパニーを設立し、会社→信託→財団→別会社→別銀行……という構造を作って、誰が本当の所有者なのか分からなくし、税逃れをしていた。これは違法ですが、見つけるのが困難なので、手が打てない。一つの回避地、パナマではペーパーカンパニーが21万社あり、世界200以上の国から、企業だけでなく政治家、有名人が名を連ねていた。

 

　これらには三つの問題があり、企業を呼び込むために税の免除や低減を行う国々や地域の存在、多国籍企業に課税する世界的なネットワークが未整備、この規制を阻害し続けている米国がある。

 

 

 

 

３-６　地球温暖化を防止しなければ

　人類が最悪の状況になるとしたら、独裁者が始めた核戦争か地球温暖化によると予想します。差し迫っている地球温暖化の脅威、その論拠とデマ、そして莫大な損害と急がれる解決方法について説明します。

温暖化を実感させる5つの事実

 

＊　過去11年間が観測史上最も暑い11年

　2025年の世界平均気温は、1850～1900年平均より約1.43℃高い水準でした。さらに海洋の熱量も2025年に観測史上最高となっています。

＊　2024年の地球平均気温は産業革命前より約1.5°C高い  

　世界気象機関によれば、2005～2025年の20年間、海洋は毎年、人類が年間に使うエネルギー量の約18倍に相当する熱を吸収しました。地球全体が巨大な熱の蓄積体になっている。

＊　氷河・海氷・海面が実際に変化している

　世界平均海面は、衛星観測が始まった1993年以降で約11cm上昇しています。気候変動に関する政府間パネルIPCCは、2100年までの海面上昇を、低い方で約28～55cm、高い方で約63～101cmと予想しています。左写真はスバールバル諸島の氷河の写真で、氷河が数キロほど後退し、景観はまったく変わってしまった。

＊　異常気象が世界各地で頻発している  

　猛暑、豪雨、干ばつ、山火事、海洋熱波、サンゴの白化が増加・深刻化している。温暖化が進むと、地球の気流や海流に変化が起こり、各地に乾燥・湿潤の極端な変化が生じる為に、異常気象が起こる。世界のサンゴ礁はこの70年間で50％以上喪失し、今後20年間で70～90％が消滅するとされている。当然、魚類も死滅します。

＊　温暖化の被害は既に世界を脅かしている

　干ばつや水害、気候の変化により、コーヒーや小麦など身近な農作物の収穫量減少や品質低下がすでに始まっています。IPCCによれば、現在すでに33～36億人が気候変動に対して非常に脆弱な環境で暮らしています。このまま温暖化が進むと米国中西部のトウモロコシの生産量が最大40%低下する恐れがあると予測されています。

 

  温暖化の原因が温室効果ガス排出である5つの証拠

　温室効果ガス（CO₂・CH₄）が地球を覆う「毛布」となり熱を閉じ込めることは理論的・実験的に確認されている。  

＊　CO₂が急激に増えている

　産業革命以降、大気中のCO₂濃度は約280ppmから420ppm超へ急増。少なくとも過去80万年間で極めて高い水準です。この増加は化石燃料の燃焼によるもので、同様のペースで気温が上昇しています。

＊　CO₂は人類が排出した

　大気中のCO₂増加分の炭素同位体比を分析すると、化石燃料由来であることが明確に示されています。

＊　気候モデルの一致

 自然要因（太陽活動、火山活動など）のみを考慮した気候モデルでは、1970年代以降の気温上昇を再現できません。人間活動による温室効果ガスを加えたモデルだけが、観測データと一致します。

＊　放射力の衛星観測

　CO₂などの温室効果ガスが増えることで、地球から宇宙へ逃げる熱放射が減少していることが直接観測されています。

 

　IPCC第6次評価報告書（2021）では、1850〜1900年を基準とした2010〜2019年の温暖化（約1.1℃）のうち、人間活動による分は中心値で約1.07℃と推定されています。

 

 

＊　自然現象（太陽活動・気候周期）は温暖化を起こしていない

　1800年代以降の急激な気温上昇は自然変動では説明できない。太陽放射エネルギーに変化はなく、むしろ成層圏は逆に冷え込んでいるので、現在の急激な上昇幅を説明できない。今は過去2000年で最速の気温上昇ペースで、自然要因（火山・太陽黒点）ではむしろ近年は寒冷化方向の影響が多い（複数の国連科学報告の総合評価）。気候モデルで「人為起源の温室効果ガス」を除くと現在の気温上昇は再現できない（IPCCの主要結論）。

 

  温暖化が進んだ場合の１０の重大被害

＊　海面上昇による沿岸都市の浸水（東京湾・上海・ニューヨークなど） → 年間数千億〜数兆ドル規模の資産損失

＊　巨大台風・豪雨の増加によるインフラ破壊　→ 年間数千億ドル

＊　干ばつによる農業崩壊・食料価格の高騰　→ 世界農業損失：年間数千億ドル

＊　熱波による死亡増加（特に高齢者）→ 医療費・労働損失：数千億ドル

＊　水不足による紛争・移民の増加　→ 社会的コスト：数千億〜兆ドル

＊　森林火災の増加（カリフォルニア・豪州など）→ 年間数千億ドル

＊　生態系崩壊（サンゴ礁消失・生物多様性喪失）→ 観光・漁業損失：数千億ドル

＊　感染症の拡大（蚊媒介疾患など）→ 医療・経済損失：数千億ドル

＊　海洋酸性化による漁業崩壊 → 年間数千億ドル

＊　世界金融市場の不安定化（資産価値の急落） → 数兆ドル規模の損失　

 

　被害額は温暖化の上昇温度によって異なります。ある2024年の研究では、3℃の温暖化で世界GDPが約10％低下すると推計しています。世界のGDPが110兆ドルとすると毎年11兆ドル規模（1700兆円）になります。現在の状況が続いた場合、2050年に世界GDPが最大14％、減少すると推計している組織もあります。

 

 

人類が取るべき対策

排出削減　化石燃料の段階的廃止（石炭→石油→ガス）、再生可能エネルギーの大規模導入（太陽光・風力・水力）、2010年以降、太陽光コスト90%低下、風力70%低下、建物・産業の省エネ化（断熱・高効率機器）、電気自動車・公共交通の拡大、メタン排出削減（農業・廃棄物・化石燃料）。

 

吸収源の強化　森林保全・植林、土壌炭素の増加（農法改善）、CO₂回収・貯留技術（CCS・DAC）、

 

適応策　海面上昇対策（防潮堤・都市移転）、農業の耐暑化・灌漑整備、水資源管理（ダム・地下水保全）、災害対策（早期警報・避難インフラ）。

 

国際協力　パリ協定の強化、炭素税の普及、気候資金の拡大（途上国支援）、技術移転・国際研究協力。

 

 

まとめ

　我々は既に地球を元に戻すことは出来ない状況にある。問題は、我々がどの程度の悪化で留めて、住める地球を次の世代に残せるかです。その責任は我々にある。そして米国の気候温暖化防止に対する背信行為が、人類を危うくしている。米国は温暖化ガス排出が中国の次に多いが、中国はパリ協定を批准している一方、トランプになると2回とも離脱している。

 

　最も恐ろしいのは、このまま悪化させてしまうと、例え排出を停止しても、地球は二度と元に戻らないことです。その悪影響は自然の回復力を遥かに凌いでいるのです。

　我々に幾多の大きな危機が迫りつつある。それらには歴史上繰り返され来た危機や、まったく未知の恐ろしさ秘める危機もある。これらの危機を見極め対処しなければ、一国の疲弊や破綻に留まらず、遂には人類と地球に大きな損害を与えることになるだろう。数多くの危機の中から、最重要なものを選んだ。

 

３-３　現在の経済格差、最悪になった米国と大幅に改善された世界

 

米国を見ます

　米国は先進国中、経済格差最悪を更新中です。これは米国が新自由主義を最も信奉し牽引して来たからで、今後も止むことは無いでしょう。米国は、産業・経済・軍事・外交で世界を牽引しているが、政治と社会の内実は悲惨です。

 

経済格差：　最低所得から人口80％の年収層は50年近くで1.6～1.8倍に伸びた、しかし上位5％の高年収層はさらに2倍伸びた。その結果、上位５％の所得は下位20％の約10倍になった。上位1%の資産保有者による国内総資産の保有割合は、1989年の22.8％から2025年の31％に上昇。これに比べて、下位50%の保有割合は、1989年の3.5%から2024年には2.8%にまで減少した。

 

 

貧困：　上図の棒グラフが貧困人口を示す。レーガン政権の前後で、貧困人口は凡そ2500万人から3500万人に急上昇し、その後、定着している。

 

世界幸福度ランキング：　2013年、米国の幸福度は17位でしたが、2025年には過去最低の24位に落ち、先進国中でも低い方に定着しつつある。政府の信頼性も米国はOECDの平均よりも低く、30位前後に低迷している。

　

自殺率：　2000年の年齢調整済み自殺率は人口10万人あたり10.4人でしたが、2018年には14.2人まで上昇した（35.2%増）。特に高齢男性や若年層での増加が顕著で、富裕国の中でも高い。ちなみに自殺率が高い日本は、2024年で16.3人でした。

 

米国の状況はかなり悪くなってしまった。だからポピュリズムが沸き立つようになった。

 

 

 

それでは世界全体はどうなっているのか？　

 

　国際分業による生産性向上・価格低下が起こった。これは新興国（中国・ASEAN等）の急速な輸出産業の拡大と工業化を生み、その結果、世界全体の貧困人口が大幅に減少した。例えば、世界の極度の貧困率（1日2.15ドル未満で生活者/全人口の割合）は1970年の約60％ から2020年代には約9％へと大幅に低下した。これは世界の貿易額/GDP比率が1970年の27％から2008年の61％への急上昇に現れている。これに伴って技術・資本・知識・人材の国境移動が加速した。この10年間で世界の最下層は70％も所得を増やし、富裕国では40～15％の増加に留まった。重要な事は、グローバリズムは発展途上国などの経済力を高め、国民所得を急速に上昇させたが、一方で、先進国の中間層以下の所得の伸びを低下させたことです。新興・途上国の経済シェアが20から40％へと拡大している。経済背長は先進国よりも新興・途上国の遥かに高いのです。世界全体で経済格差縮小と豊かさが訪れた原因のすべてが、グローバリズムのお陰とは言えないが、欠かせないものだった。世界GDPに占める世界貿易シェアが約25％から60％へと拡大し、グローバリズムの影響の大きさが伺える。米国では資産が30～60兆円の超富者が生まれた反面、多くの人は30年ほど所得は横這いに近かった。

 

まとめ

　二つのことが明確になった。一つは先進国（特に新自由主義を1980年代から積極的に取り入れた国々で、代表は日英米）で格差が急拡大した。一方、世界全体は豊かになった。ここで注意が必要なのは、米国などの国内の経済格差を起こしている真の原因は何かと言う事と、米国民はそれを誤解せずに知っているかと言う事です。

　結論から言うと、真の原因は、新自由主義政策で、レーガンとサッチャー政権以降に、米英の格差が拡大傾向になっていることから明らかです。

 

幾つかの悪化の原因について要約：米国を念頭に

 

A　国内の産業空洞化；　大戦後、多くの製造業が海外に移転するようになりました。しかし、世界の経済発展は国内にあらたな産業を生み出し、米国も含めて総就業人口は増え続け、失業率も長期的に低下傾向にある。

 

B　IT革命；　1990年代中頃から始まったこの影響で、事務職等で失業が発生したが、これまた新しい職業が増え、全体として、総就業人口の低下はなかった。しかしグローバル化とIT革命の相互作用により、賃金は二極化し、賃金格差は広がった。

 

C　自由化と規制撤廃；　80年以降の金融市場拡大と多くの規制撤廃は、一人勝ちを生み出し、富が富を生むようになった。この現象は複雑だが、例えば80年代の全企業の利益に占める金融セクターの利益は10～15％でしたが、2000年代半ばにはこれが40％に達し、現在は20～25％で推移している。金融セクターのGDPに占めるシェアは7％前後に過ぎないのだが。金融資産残高で見ると、80年代はGDPの4.5倍だったが、現在はGDPの10倍に迫る。つまり金融資産で投資を繰り返すことが出来る人は幾何級数的に富を増やせる。所詮、金融資産は国がいくらでも発行出来る貨幣（価値）に過ぎないが、これに便乗できる者は濡れ手に泡である。

 

 

 

 

D　福祉と労働政策の後退；　80年代以降に国民を苦しめる施策が始まった。累進課税の縮小、企業や富裕層への優遇措置、タックスヘイブンへの資金や税金の海外逃避がより富裕者を富ませ、税収が大幅に減少し福祉予算に廻せる余裕は無くなった。また労働組合の弱体化は賃金上昇を阻んだ。失業と転職対策の不備は、グローバル化とIT革命に対応できない労働者を苦境に追い込んだ。また福祉政策の交代は、差別されている人々や失業した家庭が再起する機会を奪った。これらは低所得者に厳しい施策です。現実にアメリカンドリームが廃れていっているのが確認されている。

 

E　移民労働者；　移民労働者が80年代から2020年半ばまでに5000万人が米国に流入し、総人口比は14.5％になり、増加傾向にある。これが経済に与える影響は概ねプラスです。労働力と消費、さらに納税が増え、経済は上昇し、財政赤字が減る。また高齢化を是正する事にもなる。しかし不安材料もある。一部の低技能作業で仕事の奪い合いになり賃金低下が起こり、また地方自治体の公共サービスや行政費が上がる可能性があるが短期的な影響に留まるとされている（移民の子供が税を負担する）。

 

　これら５つの要因が、米国の格差拡大を生み出している。一言でいうと、金持ちはより金持ちになり、弱者と貧しい者は取り残される社会を政治が作り出したといえる。一番分かり易いのは、産業構造が変化するのなら失業者は当然生まれる、そこで転職と教育で労働者を援助すれば、これほど大きな問題にはならなかった。北欧はこの問題を解決してきたからこそ、幸福度と一人当たりGDPを共に勝ち得ているのです。少なくともグローバル化だけが悪いのでは無い。移民問題も同様に、経済や格差に大きな影響を与えていない。問題の本質は、多くの米国民が真実から眼を逸らされていることにある。

 

 

 

3-４　これから起きる金融危機に備えて

 

　米国の株価は絶好調です。もし、あなたが1993年にS＆P500を買っていれば2026現在の評価額は18倍になっている。配当金を含めると32倍で、年利11％にもなる。これでは投資しない方が愚かに思える。ところが富裕層以外にとっては困難な問題が付き纏う。

 

 

　普通、年金や保険の資金の何割かは株式で運用される。しかし株は乱高下し、世界大恐慌で89％、ITバブルで83％、リーマンショックで57％下落した。つまり、高値で買うと1/10～1/2に資産を減らす。何時が買い時なのか？　このグラフを見ると、うかつに手を出すのが怖くなる。基本は余裕資金での長期運用です。

　しかし金融危機の怖さは、株による損だけでは無い、中間層以下が長期にわたり困窮する羽目になることです。リーマンショック時、米国で起きたこと。８兆ドルの家計資産が消滅、６００万件の住宅が差し押さえられ、８００万人の失業（失業率は１０％）、数百万人が医療保険を失い、自殺者は５千人増えた。米国で無保険は病院に行けず、場合によっては死の宣告に等しい。

　

　ところが、富裕層にとってはバブル崩壊後の景色は異なるのです。左のグラフは米国の所得階層毎の所得の推移を示しています。2000年のITバブル後に注目します。上位トップ1％は飛び切り増やし、上位10～20％も増やしています。下位８０％では所得が戻るか、低い層ほどさらに減り、３０年ほどで、ダラダラ下がり続けている。

 

　政府は金融産業の規制を避け、投機が旺盛になり、バブル崩壊が続く為に、格差が拡大している一面もあるのです。バブル崩壊時に、富裕層が素早く所得を挽回出来る大きな理由は、政府が大企業を潰さないために、リーマンショックでは救済金１００兆円程をつぎ込み、景気回復に巨額資金を金融企業等に重点的に注入するためです。

　こうして米国は群を抜いて、経済格差が大きいのです。つまり、格差は人為的なものです。同じ資本主義ながら、経済システムを適正に行えている北欧で格差が少ないのは当然なのです。如何に金融危機が恐ろしいかが分かっていただけたでしょうか。

  We are facing more than 10 global crises. These include an increase in wars and conflicts, the rise of authoritarian states, widening economic inequality, the recurrence of massive financial crises, the covert activities of speculative capital, the growing severity of global warming, the threat of the AI revolution following the IT revolution, intensifying domestic divisions (right-wing populism), and the fragmentation of the global cooperative framework.

 

However, the most pressing issue is the rise of authoritarianism in the United States; if this process is allowed to run its course, it will lead to the ruin not only of the United States but of the entire world.

 

 

 

Humanity Has Overcome Crises in the Past　　　　Summary of Chapter 2

 

　Looking at the United States today, it may seem as if there is no hope, but humanity has overcome various crises time and time again. Countless nations that have signed peace treaties to end wars; people who have nonviolently won their independence from dictators and the aggression of major powers; reformers who have sought to bridge the widening gap between rich and poor; painful responses to recurring financial crises; multilateral cooperation to address pollution and environmental destruction; workers who overcame conflicts during the Industrial Revolution to continue building democratic societies; outstanding leaders who prevented social division before it arose; and the establishment of international organizations that continue to contribute to world peace and happiness—these are all examples.

 

　For thousands of years, we, as humanity, have overcome crises, hardships, and conflicts between societies and nations to achieve greater peace and happiness. If we act with wisdom, a path will surely open up.

 

 

 

The Crisis We Face　　　Summary of Chapter 3

 

However, since the beginning of the 21st century, the world has been rapidly deteriorating.

 

 　Let’s address the most pressing issues. First is Putin and the invasion of Ukraine. This is typical of dictators, and if left unchecked, it will lead to a repeat of the world war caused by Hitler. What we must be wary of is the high likelihood that Trump has ties to Putin (this becomes clear when the facts are pieced together).

 

In many countries, the rampant excesses of speculative capital and tax evasion—which are gaining momentum—are fueling growing inequality and inflation, while cuts to social welfare programs are compounding the hardship faced by citizens.

 

Global warming is already on the verge of reaching a point of no return. Although this will be a long-term battle, we must make up for lost time in implementing preventive measures starting now.

 

The AI revolution that has just begun will likely make a significant contribution to humanity if it is properly controlled. However, AI that surpasses human understanding is highly likely to become humanity’s greatest threat, and this fear has already begun to materialize. If left unchecked, it will become unmanageable.

 

　To make matters worse, as the American Dream crumbled in the United States—the nation the world relied on most—and poverty and deaths from despair increased, a storm of division raged, ultimately leading to the emergence of Trump’s dictatorship. The root cause of this American tragedy is deeply entrenched in the economies of many developed nations; right-wing populism is sweeping through these countries, and the world is becoming increasingly divided.

 

 

 

Crises That Require Immediate Action　　　Summary of Chapter 4

 

 By unraveling the mystery of “Why have Americans continued down such a tragic path?” we can see a way out from it.

 

There are three key points.

 

 The reason the vast majority of the public lost hope and found life increasingly difficult stems from neoliberalism, which began in the 1980s (initiated by Republican President Reagan). Over many years, an unregulated free market—which abandons workers (including through cuts to welfare policies), the abolition of progressive taxation, and a focus on the financial sector—has allowed the wealthy and large corporations to prosper and grow out of proportion. This fueled inflation, led to policies being controlled by the wealthy and large corporations, and ultimately resulted in wages for the majority of the population failing to rise. This problem is common to developed nations such as Japan and Europe, and will eventually become a major issue.

 

Although globalization and the IT revolution have also played a role, the number of employed people continued to grow steadily even during this period. The problem was that workers were unable to successfully transition to higher-paying jobs. The Nordic countries have handled this situation effectively. The U.S. Republican Party took no action whatsoever. The Democratic Party promoted higher education as a response to the knowledge-based society, but the results were limited. While immigration has led to somewhat lower wages in low-skilled jobs, it has undoubtedly contributed to the U.S. economy and addressed the challenges of an aging population. The deterioration of public safety in some areas is more attributable to the failure to address economic disparities caused by discrimination.

 

Unchecked freedom led to corruption and monopolies, resulting in an irreparable tragedy for the people.

 

 

　The second reason is that various smokescreens have been used to conceal these facts. There has been a flood of “alternative facts” that the Republican Party and big corporations (including FOX) have been spreading for years, and Trump brought it to its culmination. The establishment (laughter) concocted a simplistic conspiracy theory—the “Deep State”—to brainwash the public, but society had become so deeply divided that people actually believed it, allowing right-wing populism to gain a foothold.The Trump phenomenon was an inevitable outcome. This history of “alternative facts” began with efforts to discredit the New Deal, and is symbolized by claims that Freon gas and tobacco are harmless, as well as persistent denials that climate change is occurring. Furthermore, since the 21st century, with the advent of the internet and social media, people have become more susceptible to being incited by fake news and anger, leading to the manipulation of elections.

 In addition, with the Supreme Court dominated by conservatives, money-driven elections have become the norm, further it has become increasingly favorable to the vested interest groups.

 

In this way, the American people lost sight of the truth and became manipulated.

 

　The third is Christian fundamentalism (restorationism and nostalgia), which is unique to the United States. While Christianity in Europe has become increasingly secularized, this denomination in the U.S.—a remnant of the Western frontier era—places great emphasis on conversion (a passion so intense it overwhelms reason), and has repeatedly shaken American society, spurred by fervor. This was fueled by a sense of crisis stemming from the massive influx of non-white immigrants and the liberal human rights movement—as symbolized by the post-war Red Scare (Communism). Their extreme fear and hostility have fueled many overseas invasions. Furthermore, given the large number of wealthy Jews in the United States, the belief in Armageddon—which leads to support for Israel—has likely gained momentum as well.

 

 By co-opting this sect into the electoral process, the Republican Party expanded its influence and gained greater freedom, as its policies no longer had to be based on scientific or logical conclusions. In fact, this tactic is employed in many beleaguered nations, where vested interests seeking to regain power have succeeded by co-opting fundamentalist religious sects. Islamic fundamentalism in Saudi Arabia, Putin’s Russian Orthodox Church, and similar movements in Israel, Iran and India are all examples of this. While this alliance offers many benefits to those in power and to religious sects, it will undoubtedly be a tragedy for the people. This religious issue is likely to continue causing serious problems in the future.

 

Religion brings peace to communities and people, but it often blinds them.

 

 

 

If Left Unchecked, It Will Become the Greatest Crisis: How Should We Confront It?

　If the American people fail to restore political normalcy in these midterm elections, they will likely never be able to recover through nonviolent means again.I sincerely hope that the United States will demonstrate its conscience to the world. If it fails to do so, the possibility that Putin, Trump, Israel, China, and North Korea will plunge the world into a cauldron of war will become a very real threat. Furthermore, it will become impossible to prevent numerous other major crises.

 

I implore all sensible Americans to respect science and the truth, to reject this utterly immoral individual, and to restore the free and democratic society that once held so much hope and success. Young people in the United States are currently facing ongoing hardships, and while securing their daily bread may take priority over saving the world or preventing dictatorship, Trump will only make things worse. The reason is clear. Whether it’s his grandstanding and lies, his unscientific and illogical views, his lack of understanding of policy, or his egotism and self-righteousness—no matter which aspect you consider, it’s obvious that he is unfit to lead in the difficult times ahead.

 

Hitler captivated the nation with his speeches, but he was, after all, just an art student and a private soldier—a complete amateur when it came to policy. In the early days, In the early days, there were talented individuals around him, and they were able to implement policies effectively, but later they were purged by Hitler. Trump’s business career has been marked by a string of bankruptcies and the frequent use of SLAPP lawsuits, and he has managed to get by in part because of that. You should avoid people who are not trustworthy.

 

 

 

In Conclusion

  It will not be easy for the United States to recover, but looking at the world and at history, it is by no means impossible. Unfortunately, the bureaucrats at the heart of Japan’s government are inward-looking, so they are of no help in the face of a crisis like this. I apologize for that.
